Date night high in the sky.

Love me some date night action in Melbourne. What a city. Amiright, amiright? With so much on offer, there are romantic nooks all over this town. Recently I have been asked by a few people where to go on those special nights. And yes, it depends on your personal style, your food preference etc, etc, etc. But I thought I would share a couple of my favourites.

For that night that you want the view, without the epic ‘Vue’ pricetag, where service is just impeccable and the food is always delightful, enter, no.35 at the Sofitel in the CBD.

Yes they have epic buffets for both breakfast and lunch, but dinner takes it up a notch and the restaurant transforms into a very refined dining space. Complete with service to match.

Husbo and I had a delightful evening courtesy of the folk at no.35 and the food was delicious. We started with the cocktail of the day, one of my personal favourites, the Sazerac. Our waiter, whose name escapes me for the moment, was lovely and so attentive yet knew when to leave us be.

We had alot of seafood throughout the night and it was all so fresh and the accompaniments worked well. I particular enjoyed the cauliflower side dish. LOVING cauliflower at the moment and I never knew that it was available in a variety of colours. Which made the dish stand out even more. I apologise for my shocking photography below. Date night lighting, as lovely as it is for the experience, is not great for the camera. But I would much prefer a dim light for the ambience as opposed to bright lights for photos!

Husbo really enjoyed his butter-like steak with moorish bone marrow on the side. We recently returned from the Barossa Valley (tough gig, I know) and had loved Henschke’s selections so we decided to also enjoy a bottle of Henry’s Grove during the meal.

We decided against dessert that evening as we off to see the absolutely incredible stage production of Matilda. Side note, if you can get to see it, go! Minchin is pure genius. However, I will have to return soon to sample each and every dessert as they all sounded spectacular. Especially the made to order donuts. Mhm. My name all over them.

So if you’re looking for a quiet, date night in the sky, with all the boxes ticked, why not try no.35? Or if you have portion control issues like me and love nothing more than going to town on a buffet, head there for breakfast or lunch and go wild for all the things.
