So I recently posted about the new piece of heaven I found on Glenferrie Rd on my way to work last week. Having fallen in love with the place I took my foodie friend Sharla for brekky on Sunday to see if the food matched the amazing coffee and service.
In short. Yes. it. did.
We were once again greeted by the oh so friendly staff and shown to our table which was one of the benches that run parallel to the wall. I noticed an Urbanspooner had dissed this seating but I liked it! Perfect people watching location and still enough space to spread out the food!
Started with the standard STSKFW (really want to get that printed on a shirt)….strong skinny flat white for those newbies.
The brekky menu is very impressive and although I had heard the pancakes were amazeballs, I had to go for the baked beans with gratinated tallegio (yes I had no idea what gratinated meant…few minutes later was embarrassed to be informed it in fact meant grated…) with a poached egg on top. Rather unneccessarily I added avo because I have a very concerning relationship with avocado.
By far one of the best breakfast’s I have ever had. Seasoned so well, the taleggio complimented the beans and still left enough of the tomato flavour. The egg was a great addition and yes the avocado, although so yummy, was not needed. Great bread too, would love to know if they make it on site or not.
Sharla went with the latest crazed favourite of the fetta & avo on toast and the Crabapple version adds chili for a morning kick. Chorizo was also seen as a good life choice addition. Although I love chili food, I found this a little too spicy for the morning.
Being the human vacuum I am, Sharla gave up with about half a slice of toast and avo to go, so I took up the reins and polished it off for her.
Finished with a freshly squeezed OJ which was awesome.
Only having been open for 2 weeks, Crabapple have developed quite a following and its not hard to see why! They are opening for dinners as of August 4 so make sure you go check it out.
